Advanced Flight Training
Everybody benefits from training. It is great fun and if tailored correctly to your needs very valuable. This page describes some "canned" training thet meets a broad set of requirements. This is just a guide and each course would be modified to precisely focus on individual needs.
Examples:
Navigation
2 hours ground school
2 hours flying in either your aircraft or a school aircraft.
Total cost £160 plus cost of aircraft.
Navigation as taught in the PPL sylabus is barely good enough to equip you for visual navigation in normal "poor" UK weather. With a little groundschool and a little practice you can learn the proper way of doing things. Of course in the "real world" who cares? You have a GPS - but actually, if you know the right technique, GPS is not necessary, so when it fails - who cares?
The ground school will cover the 1 in 60 rule, how to mark up your map correctly and the correct navigation technique using your stop watch as your "GPS". This is very easy and you don't need to be clever or good at maths. You will then learn to navigate precisely but only refering to your map for short periods at 10 minute intervals. You will understand the 5 minute routine and be able to have such confidence in your visual navigation that you can push it to one side and free up your mental capacity to enjoy flying and looking out.
Our lead Navigator (ex RAF) will teach you the proper way to navigate and you will learn that it requires very little pre flight preparation, very little effort, is extremely accurate and adds substantially to the fun of flying.
Tail Dragger Course
Add a taildragger rating to your license. No minimum hour requirements. As soon as you are safe and capable you finish!
The aircraft and therefore prices depend on what aircraft you need the rating for. We would normally use a Piper cub but can do the second part of the course in the Extra if necessary.
Farm Strip Course
This course covers everything necessary to learn to fly your aircraft or our aircraft into farm strips
- Ground school
- Short field landings and Take-offs ( on a big grass field)
- Slopping ground
- Wind appreciation
- Cross wind / wet grass
- Airmanship
- Navigation
The course normally takes 5 - 10 hours depending on previous experience, ability and level of competancy required.
